Xianyang Bomco: A Shining Pearl in China’s Industrial Landscape

Xianyang Bomco, as an independent legal entity under BOMCO Machinery, was officially established in 1959 to support the Daqing Oilfield Campaign, marking the beginning of its remarkable journey. Since then, Xianyang Bomco has exemplified the spirit of “breaking new ground with an 18-pound hammer” and “hardship and perseverance by the roadside,” composing a brilliant chapter of “dedication to oil and serving the nation through industry.”

On the banks of the Weishui River, in the ancient city of Xianyang, a radiant gem shines brightly on the map of China’s industrial landscape. Time serves as the measure of struggle, the accumulation of history, and the starting point of the future.

Milestones in History:

• 1959: The Ministry of Petroleum officially approved the establishment of Xianyang Steel Pipe Processing Plant.

• 1961: Merged with the Steel Rope Processing Plant relocated from Tianjin to Xianyang to form the Steel Pipe & Wire Rope Processing Plant of the Ministry of Petroleum.

• 1970: The Ministry of Petroleum decided to place the plant under local leadership, renaming it Shaanxi Xianyang Petroleum Steel Pipe & Wire Rope Plant.

• 1991: Transferred to direct management under China National Petroleum Corporation and renamed Xianyang Petroleum Steel Pipe & Wire Rope Plant.

• 2002: Co-founded Xianyang Bomco Steel Pipe & Wire Rope Co., Ltd. with Jinan Diesel Engine Co., Ltd.

• 2008: Became a member enterprise of BOMCO Machinery and was renamed Xianyang Bomco Steel Pipe & Wire Rope Co., Ltd.

Born for Oil (1950s–1980s)
From its inception, Xianyang Bomco has carried the mission of “developing oil for the nation.” Through arduous effort and practical work, it successfully overcame critical “bottleneck” technologies such as precision steel pipes, logging wires, and drilling wire ropes, breaking Western technology blockades and achieving self-sufficiency. In 1987, the company introduced a 5,000-ton foreign complete wire rope production line, absorbing the related technology, which ensured the smooth progress of 14 oilfield campaigns in Daqing, North China, and Sichuan, making significant contributions to China’s oil industry.

Development and Revitalization (1990s–Present)
In the 1990s, while continuing to serve the oilfield market, Xianyang Bomco proactively responded to market economy reforms, turning its focus to the broader society. It successfully replaced imported products at Qingdao Port, transforming the impossible into possible. Its “Gao Su” wire rope earned the industry nickname “National Rope, Pride of the Nation.” Subsequently, Xianyang Bomco promoted domestic substitution in high-end markets such as construction machinery, mining and metallurgy, engineering construction, marine vessels, and military applications, while exporting products to nearly 30 countries and regions worldwide, adding a vibrant hue to the growth of China’s national industry.

Entering the New Era (21st Century)
As the sole producer of petroleum-specialized wire ropes in China, a major domestic base for wire ropes of critical applications, and the first domestic manufacturer to develop integral sucker rod pump tubing and submersible pump casings, Xianyang Bomco is a complete production enterprise—from billet to finished pump tubing and oil pumps. With “steel” as its backbone and “rope” as its soul, Xianyang Bomco’s products span from deep petroleum wells to mining lifts bearing tons of weight; from bridge suspension cables crossing rivers and seas to port machinery supporting enormous forces.

Xianyang Bomco empowers products with technology, drives development through innovation, overcomes technical barriers, and has created “national treasures” covering energy, transportation, and marine sectors. Its “Gao Su” wire rope has gone global, connecting industries worldwide.
